Full-Spectrum Family Immigration Services Across Arizona & New Mexico
IBF Law Group helps Albuquerque individuals and families navigate every stage of family-based immigration. Our attorneys maintain offices in both Phoenix and Albuquerque, so we’re well-positioned to support cases where the sponsoring petitioner and the relative being sponsored are in different states. From marriage-based petitions to fiancé visas to adjustment of status, we handle the full range of family immigration matters across both states.
Our founding attorney has personally gone through the U.S. immigration process. That experience shapes how we approach each case. Interpreter services are available regardless of what language you speak.

The category your case falls into determines the process, the timeline, and who qualifies. There are three main tracks available to Albuquerque petitioners.
Immediate Relative Immigrant Visas
These visas cover the closest family members of U.S. citizens: spouses, unmarried children under 21, parents (when the petitioning citizen is 21 or older), and orphans adopted abroad. Immediate relative categories aren’t subject to annual numerical limits, so there’s no queue to wait in once the petition is approved.
Family Preference Immigrant Visas
Family preference categories cover more distant or adult family relationships and are subject to annual caps, which means wait times apply. The five preference categories are:
- F1: Unmarried adult sons and daughters of U.S. citizens
- F2A: Spouses and minor children of permanent residents
- F2B: Unmarried adult children of permanent residents
- F3: Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens
- F4: Siblings of adult U.S. citizens
K-1 Fiancé & K-3 Spouse Visas
The K-1 fiancé visa allows the foreign fiancé of a U.S. citizen to enter the country to marry, after which the new spouse can apply for adjustment of status. The K-3 spouse visa is designed for the foreign spouse of a U.S. citizen still waiting for an immigrant visa abroad, allowing entry into the U.S. while that process continues.
Who Can Sponsor a Family Member
Your immigration status determines which relatives you can petition for. U.S. citizens have the broadest eligibility and may sponsor a fiancé, spouse, unmarried children under 21, married or adult children, parents, or siblings. Permanent residents and individuals who obtained refugee or asylum status within the past two years may petition for a spouse or unmarried children only. To sponsor anyone at all, the petitioner generally must be a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or hold qualifying refugee or asylum status.
How We Handle Family Visa Cases in Albuquerque
Every family situation is different. We start by evaluating your immigration history, the status of the family members involved, and any potential legal obstacles so we can recommend a realistic strategy before any documents are filed.
Our family immigration services include:
- Petition Preparation & Filing: We prepare and file Form I-130 and other required petitions, then follow up with USCIS on case status throughout the process
- Consular Processing Support: For relatives completing the process abroad, we assist with visa applications, interview preparation, and any issues that arise at the U.S. consulate
- Adjustment of Status: Family members already living in the U.S. may be eligible to complete their immigration process here rather than at a consulate abroad
- K-1 Fiancé Visa Guidance: We prepare K-1 applications and supporting documentation and walk clients through each stage of the process
- Complex Cases: We handle cases involving criminal history, prior immigration violations, or inadmissibility concerns that add layers to a standard family petition
We also handle documentation online to reduce the back-and-forth for clients who can’t make frequent in-person visits.
